El Malakot Chair

The story

The ‘Malakot’ is the place the soul reaches once it leaves its worldly barriers. It is a place of love, tolerance, and acceptance, a mystical experience & a state of ultimate inner peace.  The Sufi dervishes’ dance has a cultural significance within the Egyptian culture and their dance is a sort of expression of this concept; of reaching “El Malakot”. 

The chair design was inspired by the Malakot concept & the dance of the whirling dervishes. The frame is sleek and simple with the addition of ropes in its sides. The ropes represent the state of breaking free and the un-entanglement of the soul from all its worldly boundaries. While the fabrics used depict this colorful scene of the whirling dervishes’ spiritual dance.
